Editorial standards

These are the rules we hold ourselves to. If we break one, tell us.

Editorial standards

We report what we can verify. When we cannot verify something, we say so on air and in print rather than implying certainty we do not have.

Every story names the reporter. Every claim of fact should be traceable to a source a reader can check.

Sourcing

We prefer primary sources: documents, filings, datasets, recordings and firsthand accounts. When we cite a document, we link it.

We do not publish single-source accusations of wrongdoing without giving the subject a real opportunity to respond.

Anonymous sources

Anonymity is a last resort, granted only when the information is important, unavailable another way, and the source faces real risk.

We tell you why anonymity was granted and what the source is in a position to know.

Corrections

We correct errors quickly and visibly. Corrected stories carry a dated note describing what was wrong and what changed. We do not silently edit.

To report an error, email partners@rvlum.com with the story, the specific claim, and any supporting material.

Use of AI

We do not publish AI-written journalism. No article, script or explainer on RVLUM is generated by a model and passed off as reporting.

We may use software tools for transcription, translation drafts, document search and data processing. A journalist verifies the output, and a journalist is accountable for it.

Opinion and labeling

Every piece is labeled: NEWS, ANALYSIS, OPINION, EXPLAINER, INVESTIGATION or LIVE COVERAGE.

Analysis explains evidence. Opinion argues a position and is clearly marked as the author's view.

Conflicts of interest

Journalists disclose financial interests, family relationships and outside work that touch their coverage. When a conflict cannot be avoided, we reassign the story or disclose it in the story.

RVLUM journalists do not donate to or campaign for the candidates and causes they cover.

Advertising and editorial separation

Sponsors have no input into what we cover or how we cover it. No sponsor sees a story before publication.

Sponsored content, when it exists, is visually distinct and labeled as such. It is not produced by the newsroom.

Ownership and funding

RVLUM Media Group is a privately held Colorado company funded by its founders and early private investors. We disclose funding relationships relevant to our coverage.

Contact the newsroom

Tips: partners@rvlum.com. Encrypted contact is available on request through any reporter's profile page.

We read everything. We cannot report everything, and we will tell you if we are not pursuing a tip when we can.
